Kasa is a popular company that offers you a simpler way of leading your life. They provide a wide variety of smart products, each aimed at giving you more control over your smart house.

So, if you’re planning on developing your smart ecosystem, then going with Kasa is not a bad idea. The best part about using Kasa is that it is designed to be incredibly simple.

For instance, most smart devices require you to get other hubs and accessories in order to work properly. However, with Kasa, you only need to have a Wi-Fi connection.

So, if you’re not that sold on going through executive setup routines, then going with the Kasa system might just be the right option.

It is one of the best starting points for most owners, and you will get the same utility.

How To Fix Kasa App Not Working?

While the control is a bit limited, the Kasa app does bring a ton of features with every update, and you will not be missing out on much.

All that to have to do is pair up the smart unit with the Kasa app, and that will be it.  Once you have that, you can set up a Kasa device in your house in an instant.

All smart devices require you to install a smart app on your phone as well. Through this app, you can control the said device.

However, the problem is that most of these users have been facing an issue where their Kasa app is not working.

Due to this reason, they can’t properly configure or control their devices remotely. As a result, plenty of users are frustrated.

Today, we will be taking an extensive look at this issue. We will be listing a number of ways how you can successfully fix this.

  1. Reset the Device

reset

The first way through which you can troubleshoot this issue is by simply resetting this device. The procedure of resetting should differ according to the device being reset. You can refer to the user manual of the device for the procedure.

However, if you aren’t able to even load your app on the phone, then you may want to delete the cache and data files of the app.

If that does not work, then perform a fresh reinstall of the application on your phone.

  1. Reboot Mobile Device

At this point, you just need to reboot the mobile device and then check up on the response from the application one more time.

reboot

Most of the time, fixing minor programming issues with the application is easy to fix. So, all that you need to do is to reboot the mobile device.

From there, you can try accessing the application one more time and engage the smart devices. If you’re lucky, the issue will be fixed right here, and you will not have to bother with more fixes.

On the other hand, if you find that the issue is more related to the network side of things, then you’ll have to refresh the network connection as well.

There are no quick ways around it, and fixing the network connection might be your only option here.

  1. Try Cycling Airplane Mode

airplane mode

One of the better methods to address minor network errors from the system is to cycle in and out of airplane mode.

All that you need to do here is to scroll down and then access airplane mode by clicking on the airplane icon.

From there, you can wait for a few seconds for this mode to engage properly and then follow the same method to turn off this mode.

It might seem like a difficult fix, but it will take you a few moments at max to get through the whole routine.

router

All that you’re trying to do here is to establish the connection with the router one more time, and fixing the unit won’t be that hard in the long run.

You can also try removing the power from the router and then powering it up after about 20 to 40 seconds.

That will be more than enough in most situations, and you will not have to bother with going through more configuration issues.

From there, you can try forwarding commands to the smart unit one more time, and it will work perfectly with the application.

  1. Check Application Version

update

Sometimes, all it takes on your end is to check on the application version. You need to make sure that the application that you’re using is updated and there are no pending updates.

It will only take a few moments to help you update the application, as the file size is not that large.

The upside here is that you will not have to pair up anything, and the application will start working accordingly after you’re through with the update.

So, there is no need to hesitate, and you can open up the Google Play Store or the App Store to find the update.

  1. Inquire About Server Issues

server error

Sometimes, the issue is not with the application, and there might be server-related problems. There is absolutely nothing that you can do on your end to address these issues, and you will have to wait for the servers to come back online.

The majority of the maintenance breaks will only last a couple of hours, but some major issues with the servers can take days to get fixed. So, you might need to wait for a hot minute here.

Ideally, you should just let go of the situation at this point and then browse Twitter or online community forums for updates.

Other customers or the official support team will list the estimated waiting period, and you can go about fixing the issue accordingly.

Hopefully, all errors will be addressed right here, and you will not have to deal with more issues down the road.

  1. Remove Background Applications

applications

Next, you should also check up on the background application activity. Using apps in the background can impact the resource pool maintained by the mobile device.

You need to turn those applications off before opening the Kasa app. This is especially true if you’re on an older device.

All that you’re trying to do here is to adjust the resources accordingly and make sure that there are no VPNs active in the background.

While using a VPN will keep you safe when connected to public networks, that is not a good idea when trying to connect to your smart system.

connected vpn

So, you need to confirm this issue by removing all the background applications and then checking up on the application one more time.

If there are no issues with the mobile OS being outdated or other errors, you will be able to secure a good response from the smart units at this point.

Ideally, you will not have to go through more fixes after checking up on the network status and the device hardware.

So, be sure to always start the troubleshooting routine by checking the network and then moving to the device itself that is connected to the application.

  1. Use a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi Network

wifi

Another thing you need to make sure of is that you are using a 2.4GHz encrypted network. This is very important as Kasa devices and apps do not support a 5GHz Wi-Fi network.

In order to change back to the 2.4GHz network, you will have to access your router’s settings. You should find the setting to swap under Wi-Fi settings.

  1. Additional Troubleshooting

A few other things that you can try are to use a different smartphone to access the Kasa app. It could be that your phone is outdated and is causing issues with the Kasa app.

You can also try connecting to a different network than the one that you are currently using.

  1. Contact Support

Customer Support

Your final option would be to contact the support team. You have to issue a complaint that you cannot use the Kasa app.

Someone from the support team should reach out to you shortly after with a bunch of solutions.

The Bottom Line

Is your Kasa app not working? Kindly refer to the steps mentioned above. Following them should help you resolve the problem without any further complications.

So, be sure to test out each method, and you will not have to bother with reaching out to the official support team.

Most of the time, the issue is with the network, and you need to make sure that you’re using a stable internet connection to help connect to the devices.

Here, you need to be careful about interferences, range issues, configurations, and much more.

From there, you can move forward to limiting the programming errors in the device. It might take a few minutes at first to adjust these issues.

reset

However, if you’re lucky, you will get the ideal response after going through a quick power cycle routine.

There are no extensive steps involved here as long as the hardware status of the unit itself is in good shape.

However, you will have to reach out to the dealer when you can’t seem to get any response from the smart unit. Hopefully, that will be more than it as you’re trying to adjust these errors.

  3. I have an iPhone 13Pro which has been working to control all my Kasa devices. Now when I open the app, all I see is the green screen with the kasa logo in the middle. I am afraid that if I delete and reinstall the app, I’ll have to go and re-pair quite a few smart plugs, which will be a big hassle. Will deleting/reinstalling delete all my previous connections?

    • Hi John
I have exactly the same problem and same phone as you. As I have approximately 24 of these Kasa plugs, I do not want to have to re-link all of these. My plugs are still working fine through Google. The Kasa App still works on my wife’s iPhone 11 Pro.

  4. I WORK FROM HOME AND SIT RIGHT NEXT TO MY ROUTER. EVERY APP ON MY PHONE WORKS EXCEPT THE KASA APP. I UTILIZE ALL MY SMART TP PLUGS, LIGHTS, ETC. THRU ALEXA BECAUSE THE KASA APP IS WORTHLESS. I PURCHASED THE SMART LIGHT STRIP OFF OF AMAZON CAUSE THEY SEEMED REALLY COOL BUT CANNOT CONNECT THEM TO THE INTERNET. I GUESS THEY ARE ALSO WORTHLESS. I WISH THEY WOULD STOP TELLING ME TO UNPLUG MY ROUTER AND REST MY ROUTER. IF THE OTHER 50+ APPS ARE WORKING IT CAN’T BE MY ROUTER. IT HAS TO BE THE APP!
