Why Ring Video Doorbell Solid White Light?…

When it comes to Ring devices, the Ring video doorbell is without a doubt one of their most sought out products. Unfortunately, we have come across an exceedingly high number of reports on forums and boards concerning a solid white light being shown by the device.

It also seems as though there are a variety of different reasons that can cause this to happen. This is why so many of you had no luck with trying to fix it.

In this article, we are going to run you through a couple of solutions, aimed at diagnosing every possible cause of this issue. Before we begin, we should note that you won’t need any level of expertise to follow these steps.

None of them will have doing anything that can damage your device. Now, with that having been said, it’s time to move onto our first fix.

1. The Wi-Fi signal could be poor

The Wi-Fi signal could be poor

The cause of your Ring video doorbell emitting a solid white light could be your Wi-Fi signal. The white light could be possibly indicating that your Wi-Fi signal is poor.

You can easily check if that’s the case by standing where your device is positioned and using the Wi-Fi to browse the internet on your phone. If the connection seems to be slow in that area, then you should try moving your router closer to your device.

The white light could also mean that your device is not even connected to your Wi-Fi at all. Maybe you or someone from your household has changed the Wi-Fi password and forgot to reconnect the Ring video doorbell to it.

Simply re-enter your credentials and connect your device to your Wi-Fi network and the problem should be fixed. If not, move onto the next step.

2. The device may have some bugs

Another possible reason for your Ring device to be acting this way could be because the battery is really low. Either that, or it’s because the device is bugged. So, make sure your device is fully charged. Tt would also be smart to reset your device.

Depending on the model of your device, the reset button could either be on the side or the back of your device. You just need to press it and hold it for about 20 seconds.

Once the light starts flashing, you’ll know the reset is complete. Resetting your device restores all the settings to default, so you’ll have to set it up again. This will probably fix your issue. However, if you’ve tried this and are unable to reset your Ring video doorbell, there is something else going on with your device.

3. The device is defective

If you’re having issues with your Ring not detecting motions properly, or it can’t be reset, as we’ve mentioned earlier, or it’s just straight up not working, then it’s most likely damaged or flawed in some way.

Make sure to contact the Ring support team and inform them about the issue you’re dealing with so you can confirm if this is the case. If you’ve only recently purchased this device or it has been acting this way since you’ve bought it, then make sure to ask them for a replacement order.

Even if your device isn’t new, it could be beneficial to check is the warranty is still applicable. That way, you won’t have to spend money on a new one.

The Final Word

We have covered all the reasons behind your Ring Video Doorbell showing a white light and what to do in each case. Hopefully you were able to successfully diagnose what the exact issue is and fix the problem by carefully following the instructions we have mentioned above.

  1. I ‘hardwired’ a 12VAC supply to the connections at the back of the doorbell. I noticed that the white light was on all night and in the morning. When I disconnected the supply the light went off.

I believe that’s an indication that the battery is charging. As the Blue light comes on when the mini USB charge is connected .
I will need to fully charge the battery to confirm.
