If it’s not a rare occurrence for you to find yourself wondering whether you closed the garage door or not on your way out, then it might be time to invest in a smart garage door opener. The myQ smart garage door opener is one of the best devices you can find of this sort.

It offers the possibility to set up alerts when your door is opened, closed, or stopped in between. It even provides the option to set up schedules. You won’t have to take trips back home just to check if your garage door is closed.

Now you will be able to take care of it from your app. And if you have forgotten to close it, don’t sweat it, you can close it remotely by simply clicking a button on your phone.

Overall, it is a great addition your smart gadget collection. Even though it’s very convenient and easily maneuvered, there are some issues you can come across while using this device. Here are the three most common myQ smart garage door opener issues and how you can easily fix them.

Common myQ Smart Garage Door Opener Problems Troubleshooting

1. Can’t get the door opener to connect to the myQ App

It’s not uncommon to come across this issue if you are installing your smart device for the first time. We understand how this can easily annoy a lot of customers.

The whole point of buying a smart device is the ability to manage it from a distance using your mobile phone app. Luckily, these types of issues usually happen because of some minor bug that is easily fixed.

If the device has already been paired with your mobile phone app, you’re going to start by disconnecting it. After you’ve done that, you will need to power-cycle your myQ hub.

To do so, you just need to locate the Settings button on your myQ hub and press it. Hold the button until the light starts to blink blue and then release it. Press it once again and this time hold it until the blue light pauses.

Once it beeps or blinks again, the power-cycle is complete. Then simply reconnect it to your mobile app. Hopefully, this will solve your issue. If it doesn’t, it’s probably because the mobile app is not working.

In that case, you should then up the ante and clear the app data. If that doesn’t yield any results, the next thing to do is just simply reinstall the app itself.

It’s very easy to do so. You just need to open your phone settings and find your way to app options. Locate the myQ app and open it. Inside the folder you will find storage options. Once you’ve clicked on it, the Clear All Data button should appear.

Simply press it and launch the myQ app again. After that try to connect your myQ hub to your mobile app again to see if the issue has been resolved.

2. What to do if your myQ Garage Door Opener shows offline

If your myQ garage Door Opener status says offline even though everything is connected properly, then it’s probably because your power supply or your Wi-Fi connection is malfunctioning.

Start by verifying that your myQ hub is actually connected to its power source. It’s common for your smart device to go offline if your power outlet is not functioning as it should. You can easily check if the power outlet is working by plugging in some other gadget into it and seeing if that works.

It might be convenient to use a lamp or something similar so it’s clearly visible whether the outlet is working or not. If the outlet is indeed faulty, you might want to replace it.

Either that, or you can simply relocate your myQ hub and plug it into a working socket. Once the hub receives power, it should go back online, and you can carry on with using the app to control it.

What if it’s not the power source?

If you’ve confirmed that your hub is getting power, but it still won’t change its status from offline to online then it could mean that your network connection is the one at fault for this. Try browsing the internet on your phone to make sure that your Wi-Fi is working properly. If it is, then try restarting your router.

It’s a simple fix but it works a lot of the time. Finally, check if you or someone from your household has changed the Wi-Fi password recently. This would have caused the hub to disconnect from your network, explaining why it appears to be offline.

3. Door won’t open/close properly

Door won’t open/close properly

It’s not rare for users to report having difficulties with their garage door not opening or closing all the way. This usually means that there is a small calibration issue. This is easily remedied and will go away once you recalibrate your device.

All you need to do to recalibrate is to sync the hub and the sensors. It’s really simple to do this, just open and close your garage door two times using the equipment already installed in your garage.

This should have synced the hub with the sensor. Try closing and opening your garage door using your myQ app to confirm that you’ve calibrated it accurately this time.

The Last Word

If none of these methods seem to work for you and you’re facing a unique error, then we suggest getting in contact with the myQ customer support team. It would be ideal to send them a video depicting what your exact issue is.

This will help them to work out what you’re actually dealing with. Once they have identified the issue, they will provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to resolve it efficiently.

  1. Why does the MyQ Logs does not have the detail of what made the garage door to open, remote1, remote2, app, wall control, etc.? Recent owner of this technology with 2 avg phantom operation daily. Couldn’t resolve why garage door will open by itself, is this a network drop connection issues?

  5. My device worked properly before the Myq server outage last night. Now it keeps connecting and losing connection to the wifi. Nothing changed with my internet so I’m not sure what to do. I have other cameras connected and all of the other ones still work properly. I have a myq camera that doesn’t have issues. Could it be a faulty device?

    • The MyQ app will only work on 2.4 GHz wi-fi networks. If your new network is 5 GHz only, you will need to configure your router to also broadcast a 2.4 GHz wi-fi connection. You could also experience connection issues if you have replaced your router or modem, or even changed the name of your wi-fi connection the MyQ hub was connected to previously.

After replacing my router, I had to do a factory reset of the MyQ hub, then re-add the MyQ hub to the app, re-learn the door openers, and reconfigure my settings. It’s not a very user-friendly system if anything changes on your network.

  6. My hub recognizes both sensors as the same sensor.

    One hub two sensors

    Connect first then works fine.

Go through the second sensor and add it then says added but it now flip flops doors opening and closing both via the door one or door 2 option. Both respond
