Tuya offers its customers smart home solutions, using the Tuya app, you can control your home appliances from anywhere. It introduces a great deal of convenience into your life.

You don’t have to manually keep checking on things. One app centralizes almost all of your smart devices. All You have to do is pair the devices with the mobile app, and you’ll be all set.

It is one of the better smart solutions on the market, with complete support for thousands of devices.

However, the configurations are not the easiest with this system. Most owners rely on expert support or general contractors to get through the setup.

So, if you’re also not that tight on budget, and need an exceptional unit, go with the Tuya system.

There are a lot of features you can use and configure all your smart devices from one place. Still, there are some common issues that users might run into. Here is a list of those issues and possible ways to troubleshoot them.

Troubleshooting Common Tuya Problems

  1. Networking Issues

One of the most common problems that users might run into is trouble connecting to Wi-Fi. There can be a lot of probable causes for it, ranging from the router being out of range to incorrect wireless mode.

First of all, you need to make sure that the devices are within range of each other. Most of the time, the issue is that the Tuya device won’t connect to your Wi-Fi because of its poor signal strength.

Make sure to move the device close to the router so that it receives a stable and strong connection. Make sure that you’re putting in the credentials correctly, letter by letter.

The majority of smart devices do not work with 5Ghz Wi-Fi and are not able to detect it. So, make sure to switch the bandwidth to 2.4Ghz, and doing that will most probably fix the issue for you.

Similarly, you need to check for the orientation of the router. You don’t have to place the router close to thick walls.

Interference from walls and other wireless devices is never good for the smart network. So, try finding a good spot for the router and act accordingly to improve the network connection.

If your device is not automatically detecting the Wi-Fi, then you should try adding the Wi-Fi network manually. Also, another thing to look out for is that the device should be in pairing mode to be able to connect to Wi-Fi.

  1. The Device is Offline

If you cannot control your Tuya device from the mobile app or it shows as offline, then you can follow these possible fixes to sort out your issue.

After you have made sure that your device is powered on but is still showing offline in the app, your best bet would be to reconfigure the device.

To do this, simply remove the device from the app and add it again after restarting your app.

offline

It is also likely that the batteries of your device might have dried up, which is why it is not showing online in the app.

If that is the case, then simply replace the batteries with new ones and boot up the device again. You can also try moving the device closer to the router to make sure that it is not showing offline due to connection issues.

As a last resort, if all fixes fail for you, then you should try resetting the device to factory settings. This will remove the device from the device list in the app and also delete all the user data.

So, you’d have to configure it from scratch. This could be quite annoying if you had multiple devices paired with your Tuya device.

  1. App Crashing and Not Updating

Due to compatibility issues or other problems, your app might crash and fail to update. Usually, this is just a minor bug that you don’t have to worry too much about.

Start by force-closing your app or restarting your phone altogether, and then try to update the app. It is a great way to troubleshoot minor bugs.

If the issue still exists, then you should try clearing all user data. To do this, simply swipe down and click the phone settings icon. After that, go to app settings > Find the Tuya app and click it > Go to storage > clear all user data.

app update

After that, just open the app and log in to your account. Your error will most probably be fixed. These were a few common Tuya problems you might face and quick ways to troubleshoot them.

  1. Freezing Issues

Freezing issues with the system are not that rare and usually related to the network as well as the servers. So, you need to first isolate the error here and implement relevant troubleshooting steps to get the system in order.

Ideally, a quick power cycle routine on the router will refresh the connection. You need to make sure that there are not any VPN or custom proxy configurations in place. From there, you can get ahead of the freezing errors in no time.

Try disabling your VPN

It all comes down to optimizing the network connection and then retrying the connection with the servers.

However, if you’re not that lucky and the issue remains unfixed even after all of these steps, then you need official support.

The problem might be with the servers, and they can go under maintenance every now and then.

Usually, the maintenance breaks are not more than a few minutes, but some can stretch out to hours. So, act accordingly, and wait for around 20 minutes to an hour.

You just have to be patient here, and that will be it when it comes to problems with the Tuya system freezing out. Hopefully, the issue will be fixed right here.

  1. Account Problems

Problems with the Tuya account are also consistent and can often be traced back to lost credentials.

You might think that your account got banned or blocked, but this issue is mostly related to the missing password. So, instead of blaming the Tuya system, try making sure that you’re using the right password.

If your account is actually banned, you will get a relevant error message on the application. So, be on the lookout, and if you do get this message, forward an appeal. You have to reach out to the customer care team regarding this issue.

update password

Make sure to accurately present your case if you’ve done nothing wrong with the application.

Most of the time, it is not that hard to get unbanned, and these customer care teams are pretty understanding. So you won’t have to go through any hassle to get your account back.

  1. Blank Screen On Tuya Application

Blank screens on the Tuya application are related more to your mobile device and not the app itself.

You might think about blaming the Tuya developers, but it is better to update the OS on your phone. From there, you can reinstall the Tuya application.

Ideally, the issue will be fixed as soon as you reinstall the app on your mobile device. So, there is no need to get alarmed, and quickly updating the mobile device will do the trick.

You can further narrow down this issue by using a different mobile device. If the app does work with a different phone, you will know for sure that the problem is with the OS on your current device.

  1. Notifications Not Coming Through

Lastly, if the notifications are not coming through and you’re stuck in this issue, then check the mobile confirmations. There is a good chance that the notifications are blocked, and you will have to isolate these errors.

phone notification

All you have to do is to open up the app configurations and then allow the notification access to the application. From there, it won’t be that difficult to get an adequate response from all the devices connected to Tuya.

Wrapping Up

These were some of the main issues that you can expect with the Tuya system. The majority of these issues are easy to fix and won’t set you back a great deal.

However, if the account is banned or the servers are down, reaching out to customer support is the only real fix.

It all comes down to the current situation of the smart ecosystem, and it is never a bad idea to seek professional help. You might save yourself from hours of hassle by asking a professional for help.

If your issue is not mentioned here, then you need to make a video of it and send it to the Tuya help center. Their engineers will find a fix and guide you through every step of how you can resolve this issue

  3. Every few minutes the camera sounds off a loud jingle. The “prompt” sound, I think. Any ideas on how to shut it off? (Short of unplugging the device and shoving it into a drawer)

  5. No one has mentioned the fact that all routers have a limit as to how many devices can be connected. When that limit is exceeded devices go offline and can crash/freeze the internet connection. This limit is usually about 45 devices.

  7. I am getting a network error message when trying to connect to my door access monitor. The device shows up on my list. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app and I have put it on another phone. It worked for awhile and then stopped working again? I did not do the original install, but it shows up as a 10 inch 1080p monitor. I was going to delete it, but I cannot find this as an option under devices.

  8. I was resetting mine and got it to connect once, then when I put it where I need it, I lost power to the camera. If I manually turn the camera I have power until it does the calibration then I only get half sweep before losing power! Anyone know how to disassemble and repair, or why I only have power for half the rotation of the camera?

    • I got to about 24 of my 30 garden Timeguard GU10 RGB wi-fi bulbs successfully paired this week before the android version of the app started playing up. Last 4 could only be added by the electrician using IOS version of the app when they then paired straight away. Definitely not an issue with my Asus router wi-fi mesh set-up (main router + 3 node routers) as android app would not pair the final ones by way of 4G mobile wi-fi hotspot from a second android phone mimicking my home SSID/password with the home network all powered down. My problem is one of those last 4 had to be deleted from the app today as playing up and I cannot re-pair it again via my android mobile app. I don’t have ready access to an iphone and today’s app update has not fixed my issue 🙁

  10. The really serious issue is that e.g. flood sensor stops sending alarms without any reason. It just stops working after month or two. Happens really often, much more too often to consider it reliable.
