The Kindle Fire is a smart tablet that you can buy from Amazon at affordable prices. You can buy a Fire tablet for your kids or use it yourself for watching shows or reading books.

The screen size is sufficient, and it can last you for several hours if you charge it fully.

The only issue with the unit that most owners point out is the Kindle battery. You find too many good reviews on this brand. So, all you have to do here to get a fair share of battery backups.

From there, it won’t be any difficult to secure a consistent response from your smart devices.

However, users are experiencing some issues with charging their Kindle Fire tablets. Even though you have plugged in the cable and the Kindle Fire shows it is charging, the battery status won’t go up.

Also, as soon as you plug out the cable, the Kindle Fire gives you a notification of low battery levels. Here are some fixes that you can try to get around the charging problem.

How to Fix Kindle Fire Says It’s Charging, But It’s Not?

  1. Faulty Outlet

The first potential cause for this issue can be a faulty outlet, which is why you are not able to get your Kindle Fire to charge.

Even though the status bar shows that the device is receiving a charge, the outlet might not be providing your Kindle Fire with enough power to charge the battery properly.

So, you can check the status of the power outlet by using voltage measuring devices like a voltmeter or a multimeter.

Then you can match the reading shown on these measuring devices with the requirements mentioned on the Kindle Firebox.

If the reading on your power measuring tools falls short of the recommended amount, then you will either need to call an electrician to get the outlet fixed or use a different outlet to charge your Kindle Fire.

The device will only charge if it is continuously getting enough power from the outlet, and you need to check the integrity of your outlet before concluding that your Kindle Fire is faulty.

  1. Check Adapter

If switching to a news outlet doesn’t fix anything for you, then it may be your adapter that is not doing its job. This might be why you can’t get your Kindle Fire to charge even though the status shows the battery is charging.

To fix this issue, you will need to remove the power adapter and plug your Kindle Fire directly into your computer or laptop.

That way, you won’t have to use an adapter, and you can use your PC as a power source to charge the Kindle Fire.

adapter

It might take a bit longer for the battery on your Kindle Fire battery to charge while connected to a PC. But even if it charges the battery 1 percent more, then you will be sure that the main issue was with the power adapter.

Luckily, you can keep using your PC to charge the Kindle Fire until you buy an adapter replacement or ask Amazon to send you an adapter replacement if the warranty covers that.

That way, you will be able to secure a charger replacement without having to spend a dollar.

  1. You Might Need A New Battery

At this point, there is no harm in spending a bit of cash to secure a new battery. The Kindle battery won’t last for more than a year. So, if you’re sure that the cable or the adapter is not to blame, it is time to get a new battery.

The good thing here is that the battery replacement is pretty affordable. All of it comes down to the money you’re willing to spend.

Just make sure to get a compatible battery, and don’t try to go cheap with an affordable brand.

Going a bit over the budget here will help you with phenomenal performance over the next few years. So, move forward with the future in mind.

  1. Try Servicing The Charging Port

The charging port can also get damaged or clogged in this situation. You need to make sure that the charging port is in good condition and make use of a blower. This will help get rid of the gunk and debris lodged inside the unit.

It might be a better idea even to take your Kindle to the local experts. They will have the tools and techniques necessary to avoid these issues. So, make sure to set aside a bit of cash and get help from these experts.

  1. No Harm In Resetting The Device

Here, you should also try resetting the device back to factory settings. If you’re sure that the hardware is in good shape, and the issue is related to the programming only, reset should fix this problem.

You can follow through with the set up after the device has reset and then check the charging status again.

  1. Check Cable

At this point, if the battery status is still not going up after changing the power source for the cable, then you will need to check the cable itself.

If you can spot any physical damage to the cable, then that is likely the reason why you’re running into this error.

Sadly, you cannot fix a damaged cable yourself and will have to buy a replacement from a tech store. The good thing is that you won’t have to pay a huge amount as the replacement cables are cheap.

So, just order a new cable and plug it into your outlet to fix the charging issue.

Also, you need to ensure that the cable is plugged in properly at both ends. It is very common for the ports on your Kindle Fire to become loose over time, which might also be the case with you.

Meaning that when you plug the cable into your Kindle, the connection points don’t meet properly, causing you to run into this error.

Cable Damage

So, just make sure that the connection points can meet by adjusting the angle of the cable to get everything working again. You can also use the cable from another device to try and get it to work with your Kindle Fire.

  1. Charging Environment

According to Amazon, if the Kindle Fire is placed somewhere that is either too cold or too hot, it won’t be able to charge properly.

That means you need to put some thought into where you’re putting your Kindle Fire when the charging cable is plugged into it.

Direct sunlight can heat the device, causing it to run into a charging problem. Similarly, when the environment is too cold, you will get the same issue with Kindle Fire.

To fix your Kindle Fire, it would be best if you could place it in a room that has an optimal temperature. That might help your situation, and the battery on your Kindle Fire will start charging without further issues.

Many people might not believe it, but bad environmental conditions can affect the performance of your smart tablet. So, it is better that you take precautionary measures to avoid permanent issues with your Kindle Fire.

  1. Contact Amazon

Lastly, if none of the methods are working out for you and the charging issue is still there, then you need to ask someone from the official support team to help you fix the device.

Get support

Even though it is very likely that there is something wrong with your charging port or the battery on your Kindle Fire, it is always best to ask an expert before you discard the device and buy a replacement for it.

Amazon support is known for serving its customers, and they are very quick to respond to tickets.

Even if that does not get you anywhere, you can always buy a new Kindle Fire, and it won’t affect your budget that much.

It is a very affordable tablet that comes with tons of useful features that you can enjoy. So, if it can’t fix the issues on your current device after trying every method that you can find, then it is time to grab a replacement.

Wrapping Up

Overall, these were a few pointers that you need to keep in mind to get your device in perfect charging shape. Not every charger is good, and the outlet might be defective as well.

So, you need to put yourself at the safer end and try a fresh charger with a different outlet.

You can also hire an expert to help you fix the electrical connections. That way, you won’t have to spend your time on fixing the voltage deficiencies.

Moreover, you will mitigate the risk of electrocuting yourself. So, make sure to seek professional support.

Lastly, Amazon support will provide you with a new Kindle fire if the unit got damaged during delivery. Customer satisfaction is the only real thing that they have in mind, and you can get a fresh piece in no time.

  1. I have found that the “smart” charge control system in the Kindle tablets can get it wrong sometimes – easily verified, by simply unplugging the charger for a second, then reconnecting.
For visual confirmation of what is really going on, you will need a “USB current tester” – plenty of them to be found on Ebay.

  2. The battery only shows a eight of a charge every time I push the on button. I’ve tried several outlets and several charge cords. I have held the on off button down it does nothing . This is my second fire to do this. I won’t buy another one

  3. While none of the advice is wrong, you miss the most obvious (and common) reason from my experience, that simply the charging circuit control has become corrupted, and can usually be cleared by a FULL power down, holding the power button until the menu appears, and selecting “Power Off”, then waiting say a minute and powering back up. The normal short press screen off will not do it.

When this fault appears connecting a power source will show charging but will NOT even power the device to keep using it. Wait and it will deplete the battery.

Also the fault stops the bracketed “(Time left to charge)” which normally follows the “Charging XX%” screen bottom indication, a clear indication it will NOT charge even though it says it will be.

This should be No 1 in your list
