How to Fix Alexa Harmony Skill Not Working?

The best thing here is that this unit will be pretty affordable. You won’t have to set aside too much money to make use of this system.

So, keep that in mind and test out the Alexa smart assistant. You won’t be disappointed by its performance as long as you set it up correctly.

Recently, Alexa rolled out compatibility with Harmony hub using the Harmony skill. However, users seem to be experiencing issues while trying to use the Harmony skill with Alexa.

According to the users, the Harmony skill is not working with Alexa.

If you are also someone who is facing a similar issue, then this article should be of great help to you.

Using this article, we will be listing a number of ways you can fix the issue for good. Here are all of them listed down below:

  1. Reconnect the Account

One of the very first things that you can try whenever you are facing such an issue is to try and reconnect your account.

However, first, we recommend that you go to your Alexa app and try disabling the Harmony skill.

Once you have disabled the skill, then try enabling it, followed by reconnecting your account. This should clear out any bug due to which you might be currently facing this issue.

Most of the programming bugs are fixed by this basic routine. As long as you’re sure that you’re on an updated version and there are no errors with the movie input or the servers, you’ll be good.

So, remove the skill and then add it again.

  1. Try Checking The Trigger Phrase

configuration

The next most common reason behind this error is that owners don’t go through all the configurations and then get confused about this issue.

If you’re in the same boat, it might be a good idea to check the trigger phrase.

You need to make sure that you’re not using the wrong phrase to access the skill. Sometimes, modifying the command will do the trick.

So, if you’re not too sure about the issue, just make sure to change the voice commands.

Once that is done, you need to stand closer to the unit and clearly trigger to skill. Ideally, the issue will be addressed right here.

So, keep that in mind and proceed with the setup when you’re dealing with these errors.

On the other hand, you can further confirm this error by asking Alexa to repeat what you just said. That way, you’ll get a better understanding of the issue.

So, if you’re not too sure about the commands getting registered, make sure to ask Alexa to repeat what you said.

If there are any interferences or reverb, you need to find a better spot for the Alexa unit. There are no other methods that can help you here.

So, make sure to find a more suitable spot that will be it when you’re running into programming errors.

  1. Update Harmony Hub

update

Having an older version of the Harmony Hub could be another reason leading up to you facing this error.

It could also be that you have the wrong version of firmware installed on your device. In any case, you will have to ensure that your device is fully up to date.

After you have successfully installed the update on your device, you will need to resync Alexa with the Harmony hub, which should be able to resolve the error.

  1. Issue On Back-End

backend

It is possible that there is currently an issue going on the back-end. There could also be some kind of maintenance between Alexa and Harmony hub.

Whatever the cause is, you can’t really do anything about it except wait.

After some time passes, you should automatically be able to use Alexa with the Harmony hub. Sadly, that is all that you can do, and fixing the servers will only take a few minutes at best.

On the other hand, if there is a major update or issue, you’ll find updates about it on Twitter.

So, if you’re not too sure about the issue, browsing through Twitter will help you get a better perspective on this issue.

From there, you can wait from a few minutes to a few hours until the servers are available again. From there, you can try engaging the system one more time.

That will usually be it when you’re trying to deal with these errors.

However, if you can’t seem to narrow down the issue and the skill problem is persistent, make sure to reach out to an expert.

You can’t fix these errors yourself, and seeking official support will make the job much easier.

Most of the time, the issue is not that serious, and you’re just dealing with minor bugs. So, a quick refresh to the smart skill or the Amazon account will do the job.

From there, you can pair up the system one more time and then check the response from the Harmony skill.

If everything went well and your system is updated, you won’t have to worry about the issue again. Just check the configurations and update the voice commands for a better grasp of the issue.

From there, you can easily adjust the responsiveness of the skill.

  1. Contact Support

If you have tried almost everything and have not been able to fix the issue at all, then what you can do is try and contact customer support.

They should know what is causing the issue and what you can do in order to fix it for good.

As long as you’re sure that the Alexa unit is not damaged and the servers are not down, these experts will make sure that you find a reasonable solution.

All you have to do is to provide these professionals with details, and they will guide you through detailed steps.

You won’t have to waste any time trying to adjust the system, and the smart skill will start working as intended.

Hopefully, you won’t have to go through a single more fix when trying to adjust your smart system.

  1. Might not apply to everyone, but it took me way too long to figure out so I figured I would post to see if I could help anyone else. My harmony hub died so I bought a replacement, after that I could not get alexa to work with it. Alexa would make the noise like it was doing what I asked but nothing would happen. I had to remove the skill and re-add it from the amazon website on my computer rather than through the app. When re-linking the accounts on the computer it asked me which hub to use, the old one or the new one, and it had defaulted to the old one. Linking the accounts through the app did not ask me this question and the only hub showing up in my harmony app was the new one, so it was very confusing. But it is all working for me now, good luck!

  2. The problem with the final recommendation is which customer service to contact?

Amazon says talk to Logitech, Logitech says talk to Amazon.

And being as Logitech is getting out of the game I don’t anticipate a lot of energy being expended to fix this issue

  3. I can’t enable Harmony skill again. it says “your settings have been restored” but when I tap “done”, it stays on “enabling skill” for a few seconds, only to go back to disabled again.

    • I was dealing with the exact same issue, but instead of hitting done I FINALLY realized that I had to keep arrowing over and was then presented with an actual button to complete the enable process. The button progression within the app poorly labeled. The arrows are key! Don’t hit done… keep arrowing over and that may resolve your issue… finger crossed! It worked for me.

  4. Has anyone ever gotten this to work? The skill keeps disabling itself, I re enable it only to have it disconnect again at random times.

    • Having the same issue. It works great once I enable it, then it just disappears and I have to enable it again and again and again. Very frustrating

    • I had the same issue. Here are a couple of things to try. I accidentally downloaded Harmony Secondary Hub. I was then able to say: “Alexa tell Harmony to turn on..”

The next accidental find was due to my wife not remembering how to control which device. So after it went through and returned to “Enable Device”, I moved to the command configuration and added a new “friendly name”. In this case I added CD Player so she could say that instead of “Alexa, Turn on the DVD”. It then went through the discover devices and it is now working directly without “Tell Harmony…”
