The initial configurations on the Trane Thermostat can be somewhat difficult for most beginners. You will have to go through a lot of trials to get the configurations right with the device.

You can also hire a general contractor to help you set up the thermostat with your existing cooling or heating units.

It will help you save a lot of time in configurations, and getting the desired performance from the Trane Thermostat will be effortless. You should also pay some attention to keeping the thermostat maintained properly.

The situation with the dust build-up and debris inside the thermostat is not that rare. This dust and build-up will only lead to more errors as you struggle to control the temperature with the Trane thermostat.

So, be sure to make some time to clean up the system once every other week.

Occasionally, customers do complain about some common problems with the Trane Thermostat. These issues can sometimes be linked to installation problems or minor bugs in the system.

So, if you’re not getting any performance from your unit, go through this list of common issues.

Fixing Trane Thermostat Problems:

  1. Blank Screen

Many complaints on the blank screen issues have been reported by owners on the community forums. Most of these mistakes can be traced back to problems in the power supply to the thermostat. This means issues with the battery or the power connections.

So, before calling the professional from customer support, you need to take a look at the battery compartment. Hopefully, you will be able to fix this minor situation on your own without having to rely on the customer support members.

Even if the batteries are new, changing to a fresh pair of batteries should eliminate this issue from your thermostat. Just make sure to check the alignment of the battery terminals before putting new batteries in the thermostat.

Otherwise, you will just be struggling with the system.

The good thing about battery replacement is that it will be incredibly cheap, and you will get long-term performance from the new batteries. So, you shouldn’t hesitate to upgrade the batteries when you’re stuck in this situation.

  1. HVAC Stopped

The issues with the HVAC not working after integrating this unit with your thermostat can often be linked to the blown fuses or flipper breakers in the circuit.

So, you will have to check the main power supply to the HVAC system before you try to reset the thermostat.

Once you’re sure that there are no problems with the power supply to the HVAC system, then try to reset the thermostat and check the HVAC system again. If it is unresponsive, then calling a technician should be your primary option.

  1. HVAC Running Continuously

Several owners have also pointed out that HVAC units work continuously and do not shut down after integrating the smart thermostat.

This continuous pressure on the HVAC system will contribute to a huge electric bill, and you will struggle to maintain the budget.

While these thermostats are designed to be more energy-efficient, you will struggle with the HVAC running problem when there are compatibility issues between the unit and the smart thermostat.

This is especially true when you’re using an outdated HVAC system in your house.

The best thing you can do is power cycle the whole unit once. If the issue remains unfixed, then your unit might be too small for the covered space.

So, you’ll have to upgrade the unit to match the requirements of the covered space. Otherwise, it will keep cycling to keep the room cool.

Similarly, when you’re just not sure or confident in your experience, then hiring a technician will serve you well.

Having a technician to help you out is a great idea, and you can list the issues with the HVAC running continuously to help increase his understanding of the issue.

  1. Configurations Not Changing

The issues with locked configurations are pretty common for users that ignore the setup instructions for the thermostat.

Most of the time, the thermostat will be locked, and you won’t be able to mess with the configurations until this smart unit gets unlocked.

This feature is in play to prevent other people from making changes to the temperature.

So, if you like to maintain the admin control and don’t want to have other people messing about with the settings, then going with the locking mechanism will serve you well.

Once the locking features are engaged, you will not have to worry about kids or anyone else messing with the settings. That way, you will be able to avoid unnecessary surprises, and fixing the system will be fairly simple.

To unlock the unit, you will have to press the plus and minus buttons on the thermostat simultaneously, and that will unlock the device. However, if the configurations are still not working, then use the reset button to fix the configuration issues.

  1. Room Temperature Not Changing

If you’ve not cleaned the Trane thermostat in a long time, then you’re likely running into this issue with the room temperature not changing because of a dirty device.

While the structure of this unit is pretty robust, you will still have to deal with the basic maintenance cycle.

Experts have mentioned that a dirty thermostat can’t regulate the temperature. So, the only thing you can do here is to take apart the unit and clean it thoroughly.

There are no other fixes, and you can go about addressing the situation accordingly.

Issues with the HVAC unit can also lead to similar problems. In most situations, just cleaning the air filters inside your HVAC unit should do the trick. However, you can always replace the filters for the best performance.

Going cheap on the maintenance might seem like a good decision as you’ll be able to save a couple of dollars, but these dollars will cause you thousands in damages.

So, instead of reusing the filters and going cheap, you should get new filters.

The installation is pretty simple, and you just have to take the old ones out and put the new ones inside. However, until you wait for the new filters to arrive, you can still blast the current ones with compressed air.

Clogged Filter

It might not be the perfect solution, but it is still better than using clogged filters.

  1. Electrical Failure

The electrical failure issues are often related to improper wiring in the installation of the smart thermostat. For this reason, try to hire an expert if you’re inexperienced and don’t know how to integrate the HVAC system with the thermostat.

If your purchase was recent, then try calling customer support for help. There is a possibility that some defects in the smart device are creating problems for your HVAC system.

The expert from the support team will help guide you through the troubleshooting process according to your issue.

While the Trane thermostat is pretty amazing, new owners do struggle with the installation, and you should avoid the installation routine.

The better thing here would be to spend a bit of cash on hiring an expert and having the expert sort you out. Hopefully, that will be enough to help you here.

Yes, spending more cash on the installation might not sound great to you. But you will be more disappointed when the system won’t respond to any input after the installation is completed.

So, just save yourself the hassle of fixing the unit by hiring a local contractor.

Lastly, we will also recommend that you get the power connections serviced once every year. It would be better if you could get them to check once every other month, but that can be a bit heavy on your budget.

The upside to servicing the power connections and keeping them fully secured is that you will not have to bother with any fire hazards or power issues with the appliances.

Moreover, the HVAC system will also perform better, and your devices will be more responsive.

Now, it might wipe away all of the settings, but you can always set them up again.

There is no debate that you will have to spend some time trying to fix the unit. However, you can always bypass all of these methods by hiring a local contractor.

The contractors maintain decades of professional experience and will be better equipped to address the situation.

  1. Recently I have noticed that my Trane Smart thermostat will be allowing the “temp reading” on its face to show a temperature several degrees higher than it is set for and the humidity has soared to a high 60-68. The thermostat and its HVAC, which is a Lennox, has worked perfectly for 5 yrs. I live in SouthWest Fl.

A HVAC tech has checked the whole operation and has not found anything wrong, but it clearly does not seem to be operating correctly.
