SimpliSafe Camera Not Working: 3 Ways To Fix

SimpliSafe Camera Not Working

Of all of the smart devices on the market at the moment, we don’t think that there are any quite as useful as the home-security ones. Home security was once only afforded by the wealthy. But now, because of smart devices, it has all become so much cheaper and more accessible to the masses.

As these home security devices go, we would rate SimpliSafe quite highly. In terms of connectivity, how easy they are to set up, and most importantly, how reliable they are, they’re by no means a bad choice.

That being said, we do know that you wouldn’t be here reading this if everything was working 100% like it should. Unfortunately, that just isn’t the way things go with technology. As a general rule, the more complicated the device is, the more that can go wrong with it.

Really, the best you can do is to learn a few troubleshooting tips so that you can get everything back online again as quickly as possible if it happens again. So, that’s precisely what we are going to share with you today. Let’s get stuck right in to our first troubleshooting tip.

What to do if your SimpliSafe Camera Not Working

1. Try restarting the camera

Try restarting the camera

Though this tip may sound a little too simple to ever be effective, the opposite is the case. A quick reset is a great way of clearing out any minor bugs and glitches that may have accumulated over time. So, to rule out bugs from the list of causes preventing your camera working, let’s run you through how to properly restart it.

All you will need to do here is push the power button and switch off the camera if it isn’t responsive. Once you’ve done that, just let it sit there doing nothing for a couple of minutes. Then, switch it on again.

If the cause of the camera’s malfunction was a minor bug, it should be cleared out and the camera will reboot and begin working as normal again. If not, it is time to up the ante a little in our next tip.

2. Give the camera a reset

Give the camera a reset

This tip might sound very similar to the first – and that’s because it works on the same concept. Essentially, this is the go-to when the restart hasn’t quite managed to shift the bug out of the system.

Resetting a SimpliSafe is mercifully easy compared to other smart home devices. This is because they come with an inbuilt physical reset button rather than a whole load of menus that you need to navigate.

To perform the reset, all you need to do is press in and hold down the rest button for 20 seconds or so. As soon as the light starts flashing, that is your signal to let go of the button.

Once that has happened, the camera takes a few minutes to boot up again. After that, there is a good chance that the camera will be operational again. However, there is one thing that can happen during this process that you should be aware of.

On occasion, you may end up getting a solid yellow light on the camera after you have done resetting it. This isn’t anything to be worried about, as such. It just means that the camera has chosen this moment to update its firmware.

At this point, you should let the camera do its thing and update itself. Though the update can take upwards of ten minutes to complete, it could well be the exact thing that fixes the problem. Wait it out and then see has the situation improved afterwards.

3. Get in touch with customer support

Get in touch with customer support

If nothing has worked for you so far, this would indicate that the problem is more severe than just the average glitch.

Though these cameras aren’t exactly the most complicated when it comes to components, it is still best to pass it on rather than taking a risk by attempting to take it apart and fix it. In most cases, the problem may be something to do with the wiring.

Whatever it may be, the only logical course of action from here is to get in touch with customer support and let them know what is happening.

While you are talking to them, be sure to mention the various things you have tried to diagnose the issue yourself. That way, they stand a better chance of diagnosing the issue rapidly and being able to help you out. Besides that, you will be protecting your warranty by not taking any drastic steps by yourself.
