You might not know it but there are multiple versions of Echo Dot available on the market. Each one of them has a different way of how you reset them. The 3rd gen Echo Dot requires you to press and hold the action button for around 25 seconds. You can find the action button on the top right of the panel.

However, the 2nd gen Echo Dot requires you to press and hold the Microphone off and volume down button simultaneously for 20 seconds, or wait until the light ring turns orange. Similarly, the 1st generation of Echo Dots has a dedicated reset button which needs to be held down until the device ring turns orange.

  1. Try Factory Resetting Your Alexa App

We suggest trying the factory resetting the Alexa app installed on your phone. To factory reset the app on your phone follow the following steps:

  • Tap on Devices
  • Click on Echo & Alexa icon located at the top
  • Choose whichever speaker you want to reset
  • Navigate to Factory Reset, and tap on it
  • A screen might pop up asking whether you’re sure to reset the device. Confirm to reset.
