Arlo introduces a compact camera that you can install anywhere in your home. The battery life is quite good and you won’t have to worry about replacing them any time soon. You are free to use the camera without paying any monthly fee, but if you want additional features like cloud storage and AI motion detection then paying the monthly payment would be the better option.

In this article, we will go over some common Arlo smart camera problems that you can potentially run into while using this product. We will also discuss how you can troubleshoot these issues so your smart cam can keep working perfectly.

Common Arlo Smart Camera Problems Troubleshooting

  1. Motion Detection Not Working

Some users have reported that their Arlo camera won’t detect motion even when someone is moving in the camera view distance. Especially if you’re using the Arlo camera indoors and it has to look out through a window to detect motion.

To fix this issue, the first thing you should check is the camera position. You can also lookup YouTube tutorials or refer to the user manual if you’re unsure on how you should be positioning your camera angle. Sometimes the angle of the camera lens does not allow it to look through the glass and the overall sensor performance reduces when it is forced to look out a window. So, make sure there is nothing in the way of your camera lens and the actual viewing area.

Along with the camera position you also have to check a few more things. This includes the motion sensitivity that the users have set on relatively low settings. So, moving up the sensitivity bar might help improve the overall motion detection feature. Also, make sure that your notification settings are working properly so that the camera can send you alerts on your smartphone.

  1. Arlo Cam is Offline

A lot of users have mentioned issues with their Arlo cam showing up offline in the mobile app. Most often than not this issue is related to your home network. However, sometimes a faulty battery can also cause your smart camera to behave like this.

First of all, you should take out the batteries from your Arlo camera and then reinsert them after waiting for 60 seconds. After that, you just need to look at the LED indicator, and depending upon the color of the indicator you’ll be able to pinpoint the actual problem. If the LED does not light up or blinks in amber color then it means that there is something wrong with your battery, In which case you should immediately grab yourself battery replacement.

On the other hand, if the LED indicator is blinking blue or some shade of purple then it is likely that there is something wrong with your connection. Either the smart camera can’t connect to the cloud or the Wi-Fi network itself. In which case you should start by power cycling your router and move it close to the smart camera to improve signal strength. Make sure that the bandwidth is set at 2.4GHz and not 5.0GHz and that should take care of your issue.

  1. Arlo Mobile App

Recently many users have complained that their Arlo app is malfunctioning. It keeps crashing when they try to watch the live stream or check the camera status.

Usually, this is just a minor bug in the system that you can easily resolve by reinstalling the app or clearing the app cache. To do this, go into the phone settings and navigate to app settings. From there find the Arlo app and click on storage options. There you will find the clear cache option, just tap on it and launch your app again to see if your issue is resolved.

If you’re having any other issues or the mentioned fixes don’t work for you then contact the Arlo support team immediately. Explain to them every detail to help them understand your particular issue. Once they can pinpoint the cause of this problem, they will be able to guide you through each step of the troubleshooting process. So, make sure to send them an email whenever you’re having difficulties with your Arlo products.

  1. My camera points straight at one of the vehicles on the driveway. This was broken into last night and the camera did not pick up any movement!! Why would this be? The sensitivity is on high, the alerts are set for people and vehicles but still nothing. No animals, people or motion overnight which is extremely weird. There is no way to break into the toolbox on the vehicle without being in full view of the camera. And this happened at home! Im feeling that the $1300 spent on these cameras was a waste of money since this didnt pick up 8k worth of tools being stolen!

I am on fixed diability pension and there is NO ROOM for extras especially with inflation which has rendered my pension to about 75% of what it was ayear ago.
