Ring Doorbell 2 Delay Fix

When it comes to smart home products aimed at automating your home, Amazon just seem to be way ahead of the curve at the moment. And, this handy little gadget is no different to the rest of the range.

Equipped with a 1080p HD camera that allows you to see exactly who is at the door, this device is perfect for those who welcome privacy and security and have a healthy amount of disdain for cold callers. But that’s not all that it is good for.

Using this device, you can also communicate with the person at your door via your mobile, tablet, and even a few devices in the Echo range. Pretty nifty, we think!

So, needless to say it has quite an advantage over outdated gear such as the traditional doorbell and the comparatively expensive security camera. And, most of the time it is reliable and highly effective.

Considering that Amazon are a massive company with a huge reputation to protect, they generally only release a product once they are absolutely certain that it is market ready.

That being said, you wouldn’t be here reading this if the Ring Doorbell 2 was totally devoid of all flaws. But, in reality, no device as advanced as this can be expected to work 100% of the time.

There will occasionally be little performance issues here and there.

Luckily, as far as performance issues go, this one is on the minor side of things and is pretty easy to repair by yourself.

So, if you are one of the unlucky few who have begun to notice that there is a delay when receiving a notification that there is someone at your door, you have come to the right place!

In this little guide below, we will help you to troubleshoot the problem and get it back working again in no time.

Ring Doorbell 2 Delay Fix

1. Check your Internet Connection

As is the norm with these guides, we like to start with the simplest of fixes first. That way we don’t end up missing something by mistake.

The thing about the Ring Doorbell 2 is that it is essentially reliant on the internet connection being strong to do its job. Like all “internet of things” techs, once the internet is out of the equation, it just becomes a ‘thing’.

In addition to this, it also requires a decent connection to all of the other devices that is expected to work alongside.

Because of this, a massively common cause for the delay is that the connection to the internet just isn’t strong enough to relay the message in a split second.

So, the first thing to do is to check the speed of your internet connection. By simply clicking into this link, you can perform a speed test in an instant.

Once you have received the data from the test, check it against what your internet service provider has promised you.

If the test is significantly down on what was promised, we would advise getting in touch with them immediately to rectify the situation. Another thing you can do here is to refresh your internet connection.

Try restarting the internet connection. If that doesn’t work, move on to resetting your router. While we are here, if you have a VPN enabled on your router, it is a good idea to disable it.

Applications such as these are notorious for reducing the speed of your internet.

2. Restart the Doorbell 2

If it is the case that your internet connection is in perfect order and your Doorbell doesn’t work, the next logical thing to do is to restart the Doorbell itself. Doing this is pretty straightforward. All you need to do is access the App.

Then, go to the settings menu. Here, you will find the restart button. The best idea then is to switch it off, then leave it off for at least 5 minutes before switching it back on again.

We realize that this fix sounds way too simple to ever be effective, but it works in a surprising amount of cases. With a bit of luck, this has solved the problem for you.

Give it a test, and if the problem is still there, try the next tip.

3. Try a Reset

When all else fails, a factory reset is just the thing to put everything right again. Again, this is really easy to do. All you need to do is open the settings on your App.

Then, when you scroll down, you will see that there is an option there to reset the device. If or any reason you don’t want to do it this way, there is also a reset button on the doorbell itself.

Just hold that button down for 15 seconds and the Doorbell 2 will reset. Though the device will take a little time to reset and recalibrate, this should sort out the problem for you. If not, it is time to move onto the last fix in this guide.

4. Contact Customer Support

Customer Support

One of the best thing about buying a device from Amazon is that their customer service record is remarkable when compared to their competitors.

They are well versed and specifically trained in these issues so you should be able to get the result you were hoping for.

  1. Ever since Amazon took over, my notifications have had delay issues. Nothing in this post corrects the issue. My internet connection and WiFi are excellent. The instructions to open the APP and go to settings and reset or restart are of no use. I’ve searched the APP settings, the individual doorbell and battery camera settings and there is no reset or restart button. I have reset the individual devices numerous times but I still get notified of someone at my front door up to 3 minutes after they came and went. I have searched to see if I can buy an inhouse hub so the signal doesn’t have to first go to Amazon and then back to me, but all the hub posts only reference motion sensors, lights and contacts. I would assume it should work with cameras too, but the posts don’t confirm. I have gone on Amazon to purchase a hub, but the product discription does not say it works with doorbell or battery cameras.

  2. I suspect the most likely issue is one that is not mentioned above and is very easy to fix. My issue was that, on many android phones (can’t speak for Apple), the default settings for batter saver are to allow the phone to manage battery saving. This means the Ring application is not available to receive doorbell notifications as much as it should be.

To fix: Long press the Ring application icon on your home screen (or applications screen), go into “App Info”, then “Battery Saver” and set it to “No Restrictions”.
Caveat – this could cause more battery usage on your phone but that’s the price you have to pay for your phone to be available to receive notifications from the doorbell button push (or motion sensor).
