Light Color Temperature Chart

Color temperature are the hue of the light and dictates how people perceive the color of there environment and how they feel in that room. Many peoples dont consider color temperature and believe that light is simply a matter of whether or not it is on in an environment. However, color temperature can change how the brain perceive the environment and whether or not it feel comfortabley within that room.

Brightness and color temperature is two different measurements for light, but many people makes the mistake of purchasing light bulbs with the consideration of brightness alone. Brightness is a quantity of light that a bulb gives off, while color temperature is the quality of that light. Color temperature is measured in Kelvin, which range from orange to blue.

Choose the Right Light Color for Every Room

Warm lights tell the body and the brain to relax, while cool lights signals to the body and the brain that it is time to be alert. Because the body respond to these colors, color temperature effectively become a biological trigger for the body. Depending on the color temperature of the lights in a space, people can create different mood in that space.

For instance, low color temperatures will create an amber glow in the space, which is appropriate to use in bedrooms to aid in the sleeping of individuals. A color temperature of soft white light is use in the living room to create a feeling of warmth and welcome to those who enter the home. However, if an individual use the wrong color temperature in an area with a specific task, it can cause issue for that space.

For instance, if an individual use cool light in the bedroom, the brain will remain in a state of alertness and it will be difficult for the individual to fall asleep. Using warm light while performing precision tasks like chopping vegetables will mask the true color of those vegetables and make it difficult for the individual to properly complete that task. In these instance, neutral or cool white light should of been used instead.

Color Rendering Index (CRI) is another measurement of light, but not like color temperature. Color temperature and CRI both affects how colors appear in an environment. Color temperature is the color of the light in an environment.

However, the CRI is the measure of how the light in that space will affect the appearance of other colors. If an object in an environment has a low CRI, it will cause the colors to appear inaccurately. For instance, a red shirt may look muddy under the light of a low CRI bulb.

For areas that require precision in color, such as a kitchen or an art studio, the CRI should be high in order for the colors to appear honest and accurately in the environment. In order to manage color temperature in the home, there are many option for individuals to consider. Individuals should not use the same color temperature in every area of the house for every task.

For instance, cool light can be use in areas to perform tasks, like using a desk lamp, but warm light should be used for the general atmosphere of the house. However, individuals should avoid mixing color temperatures in the same fixture. If individuals use warm and cool light bulbs in the same fixture, it can cause visual tension for the individuals that look at the light.

Finally, there is a type of lighting in the market today known as Tunable lighting. This type of lighting allow individuals to change the color temperature in the space that the light is provided. For instance, bright white light can be use in the mornings and soft warm light can be used at night.

This type of lighting allows individuals to mimic the lighting that the sun produce. Mimicking the color and brightness of the sun can help support the circadian rhythm of the body. If the lighting in there home supports an individual’s circadian rhythm, they will find it easier to wake up in the morning and fall asleep at night.

By controlling the color temperature of the light in the home, individuals has the ability to support there environment and there health.
