Security camera systems is designed to allow people to perform video surveillance of there property. The security camera systems that are available for purchase must be chosen based off the communication between the components of those security camera systems. If the security cameras that are purchased dont adequately communicate with the recording device for the security cameras, then the security camera system will not function.
Many individuals has experienced frustrations purchasing security cameras that will not connect to there recorders. To avoid these issues, individuals should purchase security cameras and recorders that belong to the same system category for they security cameras. Swann manufactures three different categories of security cameras: coax cameras, IP cameras, and wireless cameras.
How to Choose a Security Camera System
Coax cameras, which include bullet cameras and dome cameras, use BNC cables to connect to a Digital Video Recorder (DVR). These types of security cameras are helpful for installing into houses that have existing coaxial wiring installed. IP cameras use Ethernet cables to connect to a Network Video Recorder (NVR).
Additionally, IP cameras use Power over Ethernet (PoE) to receive power to the security camera. Wireless cameras, such as indoor cubes and doorbells, do not use a recording device to save the video footage of the security cameras; instead, the security cameras use a mobile app and cloud storage to save those video clips. Each of these categories of security cameras cannot be mixed with another category.
For instance, coax cameras will not work with an NVR, and IP cameras will not work with a DVR. Thus, individuals must plan their recording device and the placement of the security cameras before purchasing their recording device. The resolution of the security cameras determine the clarity of the video footage.
Security cameras with higher resolution will display more detail in the video footage. Full HD security cameras will produce smaller video files for the security cameras. This is helpful for wireless security cameras because the cameras use Wi-Fi to transmit the video.
4K security cameras will produce more detail in the footage then Full HD security cameras. This makes it easier for individuals to identify the features of individuals and license plate in the security camera footage. However, higher resolutions require more storage space and the security camera system will use more data throughout the day.
The storage capacity of the security cameras will determine the number of days that the security camera and its recording device will retain video footage. The standard hard drive for security cameras will hold approximately one month of footage for a few security cameras. If the size of the hard drive is doubled, the hard drive will hold approximately two months of footage.
However, the storage capacity will use up the most data with constant recording of security cameras instead of motion-activated security cameras. Thus, using motion-activated security cameras will save storage space for the security camera system. Security cameras include a variety of smart features to distinguish between types of movement.
For instance, person detection will allow the security system to ignore small animals moving in the security camera and instead focus on detecting when a person is moving within the security cameras view. Another smart feature for security cameras are spotlight sensors that will allow the security system to display color night vision when detecting movement. Additionally, two-way audio will allow individuals to speak into the security camera to those approaching the security cameras.
These features will filter out any false alert from the security system so that only alerts of the presence of a person or vehicle will be sent to the individual via their mobile device. The mobile app will allow individuals to view their security cameras footage. Additionally, the mobile app will provide push alert to the individuals mobile devices.
Wireless security cameras will require cloud storage to save the security cameras video clips. Wired security cameras will continue to stream their footage to the recording device. Additionally, individuals should ensure that outdoor security cameras have weatherproofing rating to withstand the elements such as rain and freezing temperatures.
Individuals should avoid purchasing security cameras with more channel than they require. Purchasing cameras with too many channels will result in higher costs for the security camera system. Most homes require eight channels for their security system.
However, businesses may require sixteen channels or more security cameras. Additionally, before installing wireless security cameras, individuals should test the strength of the Wi-Fi signal in the area. Weak Wi-Fi signals will result in poorly performance from the security cameras.
Thus, if individuals ensure that the channels for the security cameras match those of the recorders for the cameras and if the storage capacity of the security cameras is set up appropriately, then the security camera system will function as intended.
