SimpliSafe are made up of a wireless security system with two main versions: the classic model and the recent one with added smart security features. The most many parts of SimpliSafe require replacing of batteries now and then, except the main station and the internal SimpliCam camera. SimpliCam works only when connected to the outlet so that it does not depend on batteries entirely.
The main station uses rechargeable NiMH AA-batteries for backup power. It gives about 8-hour backup Battery life. On the other hand, some users found that the rechargeable batteries that comes with the system had weak mAh-rating and flopped after almost a year.
What batteries SimpliSafe devices use and how long they last
Swapping them for better NiMH-batteries is worth the effort. The backup Battery voltage of the station matches with 5 volts at 0.5 amps from avreage USB-ports. A portable power bank with 25 000 mAh rating could back the station during long power outages.
Entry sensors run on Duracell CR-2032 Lithium 3V-Battery and can last up to 5 years, depending on there place and how often they are used. Here, some folks noticed that the batteries drain much more soon. For instance, one case involved 25 entry sensors, from which 10 failed inside only 3 months.
Besides that, some folk found that sensors suddenly stop responding after setup of the system, because of early draining of batteries. Sometimes a sensor signals low Battery, although test shows it healthy, which can be annoying.
The Panic Button also uses Duracell CR-2032 Lithium 3V-Battery and has lifetime up to 5 years. The Smart Key runs on four AA basic batteries, while its Smart Locks need two CR2450 lithium batteries. Smoke detectors need Panasonic CR-123 Lithium 3V-batteries.
The carbon monoxide detector uses CR-2450 Lithium 3V-Battery. Planning replacement of CR123-batteries every 2 years seems a reliable approach.
The outdoor camera carries a rechargeable Battery, that lasts up to 3 months depending on activity and how it is set up. There is a spare Battery, that recharges in around seven hours. In addition, there is a solar panel option, that keeps the outdoor camera charged, so no need to often swap batteries.
Some users simply run a charging cable directly to the camera for continuous power, withoutcaring about recharging ever.
The Smart Alarm Wireless Internal Camera has non-replaceable batteries. The internal camera and doorbell camera need permanent cable power. Overall, the whole series of SimpliSafe devices depend on CR-type cylinder batteries or AA-batteries depending on the specific device.
