Fluval FX6 Filter Trapped Air: What You Should Do

To remove the trapped air from your filter, firstly turn off the water supply by closing the red ‘IN’ valve, and then turn off the power supply to your filter. Next, reopen the “IN valve to allow the water supply back into the FX6 Filter.

By doing this it should have purged the trapped air from the filter and your Fluval should now work properly and to its best capacity.

A few more tips that will help. If your Fluval FX6 Filter has just started, just allow it to run for a few minutes. The Fluval FX6 has an inbuilt auto air purge system and it should stop automatically to purge any air trapped inside of it.

close the water IN valve.

Another tip is to ensure that the joint connecting the hose to the external filters is submerged and not exposed to air, otherwise this too can lead to trapped air. Low water levels in your aquarium will also allow air into your Fluval FX6 Filter.

To ensure that your Filter is always working at its optimum performance, you should make sure to clean and inspect it from time to time.

turn off the power

Things that you should especially check for are that there are no cracks in its intake and output hoses, and to check that they are still firmly attached. If not, then again this can lead to air being trapped in your Filter.

Also, ensure to prime your Filter correctly after you have cleaned it. If you fail to prime it correctly air can also enter the filter.

turn on the water IN valve again

To rectify this, all that you should need to do is to unplug your Filter unit and gently tilt the unit from side to side. This should get rid of any pockets of air that may have built up through the improper priming of your Fluval FX6 Filter.
