Feit Smart Bulbs are made up of Wi-Fi-capable bulbs that connect directly to home networks, without need of extra hubs. They work with voice helpers, for instance Alexa and Google Assistant which simplifies their use. Those bulbs have RGBW function to change colours and offer regular white light, so that one can change the colour of the light.
One can dim them, but only by means of the app of Feit Electric or by means of voice command. Even so, they do not work with wall dimmer switches or with three-way light fixtures.
Feit Smart Bulbs: Good Price but Some Problems
At Costco one finds many of those bulbs, usually at very attractive prices. For instance, one mentions a deal on a four-pack that gives 800 lumens and replaces 60-watt regular bulbs. Except that, there was a second packet with two multicolour bulbs at about sixteen dollars.
Target also sells them, with options like delivery in the same day and free shipping for orders above thirty-five dollars.
An important detail is that those bulbs require 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection. When the network is set to 5 GHz, the bulbs do not manage to join. Some systems with Wi-Fi extenders can create troubles, because they commonly turn the option to remove 5 GHz.
Changes in the network, like a new password or change of the network, can also break the connection of the bulbs.
When there is loss of power, the Feit Smart Bulbs automatically turn on again, when the flow restarts. This can be unpleasant, if the lights suddenly flash in the middle of the knight. Without internet connection, one can not control the bulbs by means of the app, or switch them on or off.
A regular switch can cut the power, however the bulb maybe will glow dimly, while it searches the Wi-Fi signal.
I do not advise to use smart switches or smart plugs together with those bulbs. Because the bulbs already carry built-in smart technology, pairing them with such switches could create conflicts.
The app of Feit stays the main way to manage those bulbs. By means of it one can set schedules and times. It also has an AP mode for joining, if the usual method fails.
On the other hand, the bulbs apparently can not slowly increase or reduce the light to copy sun rising or setting, which is a bit disappointing. Actually, some of them run on Tuya technology and even work directly in the cloud by means of online tools, without need of soldering.
This kind of bulbs forms a reliable and budget friendly option for those that want to try out smart lights. They work with the networks that most folks already have at home. Some bulbs lasted three to four years without burning out.
Feit also makes outdoor smart bulbs and switches, that handle more tough loads well, although thecameras of the brand suffered because of too many false warnings.
