The Eufy S330 eufyCam 3 are security cameras for outside, that run on Battery and film in 4K, and they come with a built-in solar panel designed for keeping the Battery charged for a long time. According to the specs, a fully charged Battery should last for around one year and the solar panel helps reset it, if the camera gets at least some hours of direct sunshine daily.
But in real life? Everything is more complex than promised. Two cameras beside one the other can act totally different; one stays almost fully charged thanks to afternoon sun, while the second slowly falls to 20 or 30 percent during a few weeks and needs a cable for recharging.
Eufy S330 Battery and Solar Charging Problems
Honestly, it is unpredictable. Some copies keep a stabel level at 90 percent or more for months, even while they work in high resolution. Others simply lose energy constantly.
If something besides good Battery management happens, the energy goes away even more quickly. I saw cameras, that lost around 5 to 8 percent daily only because of watching an empty garden, which honestly makes the whole thing quite annoying without constant recharging. Because those cameras depend on batteries, they do not film continuously…
They rely on motion sensors and every single recording limits to a maximum of too minutes.
Some devices, that are designed to work with Apple HomeKit, can help the Battery use also. It matters to keep the Eufy Security app updated with the newest versions and move the camera so that the solar panel truly catches sunlight.
The Battery drain became a big problem for some units. One user ended with two S330 cameras, that showed bad drain crashes during the first year, but he managed to get replacements through the one-year guarantee of Eufy. Even after the end of that standard period, Eufy offers a program to exchange cameras free, if the lithium Battery fully dies or shows problems.
There is a real issue about the non-replaceable batteries in the S330… Something that one should think about, because the warranty counts only one year and differences in products because of supplier items certainly matter. Even so, users found success with outside solar panels from third party, like those from Shyueda, to keep the S330 cameras charged without too much spending.
About the smart lock, Eufy offers a 10,000mAh rechargeable Battery pack, that aims to extend the life, with a fast way to remove it, which makes the swap easy without breaking the lock. There is also a stronger version of 10,500mAh with thick cells, that works for temperatures between 22°F and 158°F. Both versions fit with the S330, E330 and S230 smart locks, except the Smart Lock Touch and Wi-Fi models, theSmartDrop and the Smart Garden Box.
