Setting a detection zone limits false motion triggers (trees, passing cars). Reducing events from 30 to 10 per day can more than triple your battery life. This is the single most effective way to extend Wyze camera battery duration.
Lithium-ion batteries lose up to 40% of their effective capacity below 32°F (0°C). If your camera is in a cold climate, plan to recharge much more frequently or consider a solar panel accessory to offset the drain.
The Wyze Battery Cam Pro works using a removable and rechargeable lithium-ion Battery. It works without wires and also without a hub, which is a really important advantage. The older outdoor cameras of Wyze required a hub to work, but this model completely drops that.
The Battery has a capacity of 6 200 mAh and Wyze claims that it can last up to six months on one single charge. That means that you can place the camera outside without caring about a nearby electrical port, and that is quite useful.
Wyze Battery Cam Pro battery life and how to power it
However the actual Battery life can really differ. Some reported that they got about 9 to 10 months with around 22 logged events a day. On the other hand, others noticed that the Battery sharply almost emptied, losing more than 70 percent during one night.
There are even reports about only 14 to 18 hours of Battrey life, even when continuous recording was not switched on. If you use features like the spotlight or the IR lights and if there are many motion events, the Battery drains more quickly.
Continuous recording is a real Battery killer. If you add a solar panel, the camera can stay fully charged while it logs events. But when you switch on continuous recording, it drains everything quite quickly.
The solar panel option is nice, although finding a good place to mount it can be a bit stressful, especially on fake siding or at gutters. Various mounts four such setups for cameras are available on Amazon.
The Battery is removable, so that is handy. Wyze also sells a Battery charging dock that can charge two extra batteries at the same time. The dock costs around 17.99 USD, and an extra Battery is about 22.99 USD.
There are also third-party options. One brand called IBATTS makes a 7 000 mAh backup Battery that works with the Battery Cam Pro and the Wyze Wireless Doorbell.
The camera also can work using wired power even without a Battery inside. However the included USB-C cable is not meant for outdoor use. Wyze mentioned that an outdoor power adapter for the Battery Cam Pro will come soon.
Some also reported Battery quirks. The Battery percentage sometimes sharply falls from a normal level to 10 percent after only some days. Some also noticed a delay of 4 to 5 seconds on the Battery Cam Pro compared to Wyze Cam v3 Pro that sat right beside it.
Local recording using a microSD card is possible on the Battery Cam Pro, but getting it to work right can take a bit of effort. One person put in an SD card and still had trouble fully logging anything. The camera also supports the Wyze solar panel, which helps keepeverything charged without extra hassle.
The floodlight mount from Wasserstein is another choice that gives steady power to the camera outside.
