The Arlo Pro 5 works by means of Battery and serves as a security camera with several good features. It films in 2K HDR, has a 160-degree view and gives warnings about movement together with night vision. Beyond that it accepts dual-band Wi-Fi and has a swappable Battery, which allows you to easily remove the dead one and put a new one in instead.
About the change of the Battery, the Arlo Pro 5 carries a release button at the bottom of the camera. Many users struggle with it, because the instructions simply say to press the body, which causes slipping of the device. Even so, that button below really is the secret.
How the Arlo Pro 5 Battery Works
The user guide mentions it on page 78.
The Battery itself is made up of rechargeable lithium-ion kind. The official version for newer models of Arlo, as the Ultra 3rd Generation and Pro 5 6th Generation, has 3.89V, 5505mAh and 21.41Wh in rechargeable lithuim-ion form. One finds also backup batteries of third party.
They commonly sell in buying amounts of two packs with 4800mAh power in 3.85V. The original Arlo Battery, that one buys at stores, reaches 6500mAh capacity and works with the Arlo Pro 5 2K, Pro 4, Pro 3, Ultra 2 and Ultra cameras. Companies like Wasabi Power produce similar batteries, that work with the original Arlo charger.
Compatibility of batteries between different models deserves attention. Batteries of the Arlo Pro 5, Pro 4 and Pro 3 can be exchanged all. They work also with the Ultra 3 and Ultra 2.
All those batteries have the same size, while one must avoid mixing XL-types, because they are longer.
Currently, the life of the Battery forms a mixed image. The camera claims double life of the power. Even so, results in actual use vary a lot.
Some devices die in only three days after update of the software, while others stay at 96 percent after nine days with active recordings. A sample with two until four motion events daily, using 60-second clips, only lasted around three weeks. Old models of Arlo Pro from 2016 still can reach two until free months on one charge.
Cameras in rarely used places, like crawl spaces, commonly last two until four months or even more.
There is also a bit of confusion about use of the Arlo Pro 5 only by means of AC-power. The Arlo Pro 5 does not work on AC-power alone without an installed Battery. The Battery serves as a channel for the energy of the charging cable to the camera.
Some owners wonder, can the device simply stayconnected and charged always.
In the long run, the lifespan of the Battery depends on lithium batteries, that widely last 300 until 500 cycles of charge and discharge. If one resets it every 10 days, with 300 cycles, it can serve eight years or even more.
