The dryer is an easy appliance. Toss your laundry in, push a button, wait for it to dry. Done. You shove wet clothes in, press a button, and an hour later you pull out warm towels. An hour later, you pull out a batch of fresh, dry towels.

This routine depends on flow of air through your ductwork to blow the lint away. As that airflow gets restricted, though, the dryer has trouble removing moisture. Your clothes aren’t getting dry, and machine’s internal temperature rises. If the blockage is significant enough, it can pose a fire hazard. To avoid this danger, it’s important to clean your vent on a regular basis.
