The Wyze Doorbell Battery is a wireless bell that works thanks to a built-in battery. It looks almost identical to the Doorbell v2 that the company launched in 2023, but this model includes a rechargeable battery which makes it much more simple to install without need of wiring or access to electricity. According to the ad, the battery should last from three to six months during normal usage.
However the actual experience with the battery commonly is entirely different for many users. Some bells quickly drain from 100% to under 20% during only one week. For instance, one device lost from 83% to 18% in only 48 hours.
Wyze doorbells often have battery problems
Another model lasted only four days after full charge before entirely shutting off. One user did not manage to reach even half a month, and even nobody rang the bell during that time. The detection zone was limited to only the naer area before the door.
The Wyze Doorbell Pro also suffers similar problems. After full charge, the battery lasted only three days for some folks, despite the promise of four to six months of usage. One battery started to loose less than two weeks and seemed to worsen over time.
After recharge, it already fell to 85% the next day. The Wyze support advised to update to the newest software, use the included cable for charge and check the signal strength. The signal of the bell showed two bars, while the phone had three.
The Wyze Dual Camera Doorbell received the title of the most advanced Battery-operating Doorbell from Wyze. Even so, even when connected to 24V 40VA transformer for permanent power, some copies still quickly drain the battery. To be fair, the bell simply can not handle constant video stream.
It only receives slow charge from the wiring and stays charged between events thanks to that slow inflow. Continuous viewing still drains the battery more quickly than it resets.
An interesting fact is that the Dual Camera Doorbell has a removable battery, while the newer Battery Doorbell does not have one. So, if the battery ever fails constantly, only the one with the removable battery avoids being dumped. There also exist third-party backup batteries for sale.
One option is a rechargeable 6200mAh battery, made for the Wyze Battery Camera Pro, the Wyze Dual Camera Doorbell and the Wyze Lock. Another option is made up of a double set of 7000mAh rechargeable batteries, that fits the Wyze Wireless Dual Camera Doorbell.
Getting help from Wyze when the battery fails was not easy either. One bell suddenly died after 14 months, and the customer service replied that it is outside the guarantee. Instead of offering a new battery, they offered only a ten-dollar gift card.
Not even were batteries available for purchase on the website. Also checking thestate of the battery forces you to physically check the device, which is not great.
