The Reolink Argus 2 is a wireless security camera that operates by means of batteries. In start of 2017, when the first Argus appeared, it introduced a fresh idea… A camera that was both wireless and powered by Battery.
That marked the start of everything. The Argus 2 follows in that same series of cameras.
Reolink Argus 2 Battery Guide and Problems
The Battery itself is a rechargeable lithium-ion unit designed specially for this model. It holds power of 5200 mAh what ensures long use. One can charge it by means of micro-USB port with 5V/2A charger.
Under that port on the Battery shines an LED light, that shows the progress of the charge. Also, it receives energy directly from a wall plug or by means of the Reolink Solar Panel, that well works for outdoor usage.
An interesting advantage of the Reolink Argus 2 is the fact, that one can withdraw the Battery. In versions like Argus 2, Argus Professional, Go, Go Ultra and Go Plus, all batteries can be removed. On the otehr hand, the Argus 2E differs…
On it the Battery stays fixed. Good to note before buying.
In the Battery unit sit two Samsung 18650 cells. Some users opened their units and found H18650C1 BAK A00 types inside. If those cells run out, folks commonly buy new 3300 mAh 18650 batteries as spare replacements.
Finding official spare Battery units proved hard. Reolink does not sell only the units on there site, so some bought cheap Reolink Argus 2 cameras from eBay only to take the batteries from them.
The Reolink Argus 2 acts as a motion-sensing camera. It films only when it notices motion, so continuous recording all day does not work for a Battery powered system. One can save clips on a micro SD card, and it connects by means of WiFi.
Almost any proper USB charging cable will work for it.
The life of the Battery ranges according to conditions. After seven hours with 126 detections of motion, for instance children, dogs or cats playing, one Battery stayed at 91 percent. That shows good output.
Even so, cool weather commonly causes fast drain, and connecting cameras to the Home Cooperative panel can drain the energy far quickly.
The Battery bears four golden contacts, that connect it to the camera. When one of them gets damaged, for example during a storm, the device can stop working. If the camera does not turn on, one can try clicking the power switch several times for help.
One user said, that his Battery died in less than a year afterinstalling in July 2019, what truly saddened.
