Philips Hue Bulbs have very reliable lifetimes globally. The first set of those Philips Hue Bulbs lasted around 15,000 hours of usage. Later, when the second and third versions appeared, that number jumped to 25,000 hours.
LED lights widely including the Philips Hue Bulbs smart lights, commonly last 25,000 to 50,000 hours.
How Long Do Philips Hue Bulbs Last?
Note that in real life 25,000 hours match almost to 22 years of normal usage. If one uses them daily for around 6 hours, a typical Philips Hue Bulbs easily serves 6 to 7 years. For 8 hours a day the range falls between 5 and 9 years.
Some calculations reckon that around 14 years of usage is likely. When the lights run only 3 hours daily, they can reach even 15 years. Even so clearly, if one leaves them on more long every day, they wear out more soon.
Compared to old style bulbs, that lasted only 1,000 to 1,500 hours, the Philips Hue Bulbs are much better. Most home families will need to change their Philips Hue Bulbs only once or twice during the whole life of their smart light system.
The real lifespan of a bulb depends on how one uses it. A light that burns most of the time will live more then those that stay off every day. If one dims the bulb instead of using full light, that helps extend its life.
Also, turning the motion sensor on Philips Hue Bulbs is a good way to get more hours.
Some Philips Hue Bulbs from 2014 or 2015 still work well. Reports about bulbs that work strongly after 5, 8 or even 10 years and more. One system with around 50 LED lights, a mix of average Philips LEDs and Philips Hue Bulbs, had no failure after 7 years of heavy usage.
Another group of 25 bulbs and strips did not fail after 9 years, even though they passed their planned lifetimes. However the lifetime of LEDs is almost impossible to exactly predict.
Not all bulbs are perfect however. Some older color bulbs show weird color after time, looking faded or worse than one expects. One even flashed green after long use since 2018.
Yet, such behavior over several years is quite good.
Philips gives a guarantee for damages in materials and performance during 2 years, assuming up to 3 hours of daily usage. One light from the first generation did end in the first year, but one replaced it under guarantee. The brand itself reached 10 years in 2022, anddata about long reliability stays a bit unclear.
Philips Hue Bulbs can be used also outside, if they are in a protected lantern, that keeps them safe from rain, snow and salt.
